Stewardship is about being grateful, responsible stewards of the gifts we receive from God. The tradition of giving back to God and to the church comes from the Biblical practice of “tithing,” which means to give back a tenth of our earnings to God (Numbers 18:26). The Episcopal Church sees stewardship as more than simply contributing money to the church; it’s also about contributing time and talents, and volunteering for ministry and mission. It’s about reaching out to build relationships from a perspective of abundance instead of scarcity.    At St. George’s, even our youngest members are encouraged to identify and share their time, talents and treasure.

How much time, talent and treasure you choose to give is between you and God.  No one aside from the church treasurer (who needs to know in order to formulate the annual budget) and the part-time bookkeeper will know what monetary amount, if any, you choose to contribute.

Some parishioners choose to join donors from earlier generations who have identified the church as a beneficiary in their will or have established charitable gift annuities that provide the donor income for life, with the principle accruing to the church upon death. Funds received in this way typically flow into St. George’s endowment and help strengthen the parish for generations to come, but you may also earmark them for a special purpose (EG: outreach, restoration fund, music fund) .  If exploring these options and their tax benefits interests you, please call or email the church and our treasurer will provide you with further specific information.
